The dispatch office has a solid network. The shop, the warehouse and the far end of the yard often do not. Cameras run on consumer gear, the gate has its own line, and the fuel island talks to nobody. Trucking operators across the GTA ask us the same question: can wireless really cover all of that?
How far a link can go
With clear line of sight and the right radios, a point-to-point link reaches several kilometres — far beyond the size of any yard. Distance is rarely the constraint. Line of sight, mounting height and interference are.
What a survey establishes
Before quoting anything, we walk the property: where the mast can go, what is between the office and the far end (trailers stack up, buildings get added), which frequencies are already crowded, and what the yard's equipment needs — cameras, gate controllers, fuel systems, shop workstations. The survey is what turns a guess into a design.
Weather and reliability
Properly engineered links tolerate rain, snow and temperature swings; the design includes margin for it, and the link is monitored so a degradation is seen before it becomes an outage. Outdoor-rated switching and enclosures at the far end matter as much as the radios.
Keeping cameras away from dispatch
Video is heavy traffic. It runs on its own segment with its own capacity, so recording and playback never compete with dispatch, phones or file access. Gate and fuel systems are segmented the same way, and vendor access to each is controlled and logged.
When there is no line of sight
A relay point, a taller mast, an existing fibre path or a carrier circuit for one leg — there is nearly always an option. The survey tells us which one before anything is ordered.
